There are a variety of factors that determine the cost associated with a probate case, such as the value of the estate, the number of beneficiaries, and the length of time someone has been deceased.
Small estates (summary administration) generally start at $2,500, plus court costs and other required expenses.
Large estates (formal administration) generally start at $3,500, plus court costs and other required expenses.
Contested probates occur when families cannot agree on distribution of the assets. It is difficult to provide a range because every contested probate case is different. Generally, a contested probate starts at $5,000, plus court costs and other required expenses.
Comprehensive estate plans are generally a flat fee. These plans include the primary documents and ancillary documents. The estimates below represent the starting cost of standard estate planning packages. Planning for more sophisticated estates will generally increase the costs below.
